Broadbridge Heath Women made the perfect start to their 2026/27 league campaign on Sunday, claiming an emphatic 6–2 victory over local neighbours Horsham Women.

In the first league fixture of the season, the Bears came flying out of the blocks and quickly took control of the contest. A dominant first-half display saw Broadbridge Heath head into the break with a commanding 4–0 advantage, setting the tone for an impressive afternoon.

The goals were shared right across the team, with six different players finding the back of the net. Darryl Avery, Nicole Cossey, Maddy Davies, Isabelle Weatherstone, Lucie Francis and Elisa Harris all got their names on the scoresheet as the Bears continually caused problems going forward.

Broadbridge Heath continued to dominate possession and create opportunities after the interval, adding another two goals to complete their six-goal haul.

Horsham did manage to pull two back during the second half, with a couple of direct balls over the top releasing their pacey forward beyond the Bears’ defence and into one-on-one situations.
However, the visitors remained firmly in control of the game and saw out the afternoon comfortably to secure all three points.

Player of the Match went to Ellie Barry, who produced a superb performance on the wing. Her relentless work rate caused Horsham problems throughout, while her willingness to drive forward and move into more advanced positions saw her become a constant threat in and around the final third.

Six goals. Six different goalscorers. Three points.
It couldn’t have been a much better start for the Bears, who begin the new league season with a statement victory and plenty to build on in the weeks ahead.
