Broadbridge Heath brought their season to a close with a trip to Erith Town on a glorious sunny afternoon at The Stanmore Stadium.
In a game of few goal scoring opportunities it was The Bears who had the first shot on goal when Yuvi Mann who cut in from the right flank to fire off a left foot shot that went across the face of the goal and narrowly wide of the post.
At the other end on 12 minutes a free kick from 20 yards saw Jedd Hobbs hit a left foot shot but he failed to get the connection he wanted and the ball went harmlessly through to Heath goalkeeper Alfie Hadfield.
Heath’s best chance came on 25 minutes when an Erith attack broke down and Louis Evans came away with the ball at his feet and picked out a long pass down the right allowing Mann a clear run on goal, Erith goalkeeper Harrison Firth came sprinting out of goal to clear the danger but failed to make contact with the ball which fell kindly for Mann to hit it first time with his left foot from 35 yards towards the empty goal but the shot went agonisingly wide of the post to safety.
The hosts best chance came 5 minutes later when Hobbs received the ball wide on the right of the Heath penalty area and he beat two defenders before hitting a fierce right foot shot that was well saved by Hadfield diving to his right to push the ball out for a corner and it remained 0-0 at the break.
Apart from the winning goal there were few moments of joy for either set of supporters to get excited about as the second period was played out like an end of season match with neither team having anything to play for.
The goal itself was scored on 71 minutes when the ball was played out wide to substitute Deven Reid-Solanki who advanced towards the Heath goal before hammering a left foot shot that flew past Hadfield giving The Bears goalkeeper no chance of stopping.
Special mention to the Assistant Referee, Heath supporters felt the Erith player was a long way offside but having viewed the video after the game the official was spot-on with his decision, so a small beer awaits him when he next comes to The BodyMould Stadium.
Heath did have chances to draw level with a couple of goal mouth scrambles and the ball pinging around the 6 yards box and in the closing minutes Zac Young fired a left foot shot wide of the post but the hosts held on to win the points.
After the game Heath manager Chris Simmons posted the following on social media “Another poor performance, lads looked like they’ve been on the beach for the last 4-5 weeks & the last two performances have been really poor, time to reset and go again. Thank you to our supporters and sponsors”.
