Broadbridge Heath played host to Beckenham Town in the Isthmian League Division One South East division for “The Bears” final home game of the season but it was the visitor's who left with the 3 points with Heath conceding yet another late goal.
Beckenham whose valiant attempt to avoid relegation failed 7-days earlier had a familiar face in their line-up; that of Elliott Romain who departed “the Bears” for “The Becks” a few weeks previously in a bid to help them avoid the drop to Step 5 football but now wearing the red Beckenham Town shirt.
The visitor’s had the better of the early spell and had their first shot on target after 12 minutes play when a free kick was awarded some 30 yards from goal which Casey Dudley struck with a right foot shot that went tamely through to Heath goalkeeper Alfie Hadfield.
On 18 minutes the lively Freddie Nyhus struck a left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area that saw Hadfield at full stretch pushing the ball wide of the post and out for a corner and Nyhus was in action again on 32 minutes when he cut in from the left and hit a right foot shot inches wide of the far post.
The deadlock was broken on 41 minutes when a long throw-in, taken by Mudiaga Wanogho wide on the left, was headed clear by Heath skipper Byron Napper protecting the near-post, the clearance went high and long and dropped ideally for Elliott Romain some 20 yards from goal who struck a beautiful right foot volley that flew past Hadfield, crashed against the underside of the crossbar and into the net to give the visitor’s a 1-0 half-time advantage.
Heath created some good chances in the second half but their final ball was missing that clinical finish, Louis Evans blasted a right foot shot high and wide from 16 yards, Zac Young normally so deadly when around the 18 yard box but his left foot shot went out for a throw-in and Yuvi Mann fired a left foot shot narrowly over the crossbar.
Heath finally drew level on 74 minutes when Evans received the ball wide on the left and played a long diagonal pass towards the far post to Haftom who headed it back across the face of goal to Sal Marino to score from close range, his 8th goal of the season.
The Bears continued to push forward in search of the winner, Napper split the defence with a ball to allow Young to get in round the back, he played a low ball across the goal to Charlie Pitcher whose shot was blocked on the line, the ball came back to Young but his follow-up was deflected for a corner.
Deep into time added on substitute Callum Corbin won the game for the visitors when he ran at the Heath defence before striking a left foot shot from distance that kept low and went under the diving Alfie Hadfield to bring the game to a conclusion.
