Broadbridge Heath welcomed VCD Athletic to the BodyMould Community Stadium for the first ever match between the two sides but it was The Bears who came out on top in this Isthmian League South East division match with a 4-1 victory to move into the top half of the division.
The game was played at a frantic pace with both sides playing some eye-catching football but it was The Bears who took the lead midway through the first half when Callum Dowdell got on the end of a fantastic through ball and went on to drill a low left foot shot from 18 yards past Athletic goalkeeper Bobby Mason to put ‘The Bears’ ahead.
Heath doubled their lead 8 minutes later when Luke Bejashvili received the ball wide on the left of the penalty area and close to the goal-line, without much support the Heath winger lifted the ball over Mason’s head at the near post, across the goal and into the net at the far side, an almost impossible angle to score from but somehow he managed to and it remained 2-0 at the break.
The visitor's started the second half on the ascendency but they lacked a clinical finish and it was The Bears who added a 3rd on 82 minutes when Jake Lawrence cut inside and drilled a low shot which was deflected by Emmanuel Abudiore past Mason into the bottom right corner just minutes after coming on as substitute and it was all but game-over 4 minutes later when Lawrence scored his first of the match with an equally well struck shot from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom left corner of the net.
As the teams entered time added-on the visitor's scored a late consolation when Lewis Hyde brought down Bethel Gboda in the Heath penalty area and Oliver Freeman stepped up to dispatch the resulting spot kick past Hadfield to bring the game to a conclusion.
