This was the fourth meeting between the two sides this season with The Dockers having the better of the three previous occasions winning each game narrowly by 2-1.
A fairly even first half with few clear cut chances, Mitchell Hamilton had the first sight of goal for Newhaven in the opening minutes but sliced his left foot shot high and wide of the goal and minutes later Ryan Walton saw his right foot shot blocked by Heath keeper Micheal Chester. Straight up the other end a Scott Weller free kick was headed narrowly over the Newhaven bar by Martyn Flack and 15 minutes before the break Weller dribbled the ball around three defenders but then shot straight at the Dockers keeper Jake Buss.
The game changed on the hour mark when Newhaven’s Connor Sidwell grabbed hold of Tim Martin’s shirt to prevent the Heath striker going through on goal, a yellow card followed but having already been cautioned in the first half in meant an early shower for the defender.
Heath took full advantage of the extra man and took the lead just minutes after the players departure, Shaun Findlay won the ball in midfield and played it down the left flank for Tim Martin to cross towards the far post, Jake Holmes brought it down with his chest and hit a right foot shot that Buss did well to save but the ball came back to Holmes who finished from close range with his left. A minute later it was 2-0, Holmes was again the executioner having again been put through by Findlay and as Buss came out to narrow the angle Holmes hit a left foot shot from 25 yards into the bottom right hand corner.
Buss was in action again in the 72nd minute to deny Martin Mutungi and Holmes came close to his hat-trick when through one-on-one but Buss was out quickly and Holmes stabbed his shot just wide of target.
Newhaven pulled a goal back with 5 minutes remaining when the divisions leading goal scoring Lee Robinson showed his class with a clinical finish from close range. A nervy few minutes remained for Heath who should have wrapped up the game in injury time when Jake Legrange beat the offside trap and with Holmes and Ronnie Burchell either side of the striker he tried to get round the Newhaven keeper who made a superb save diving bravely at his feet.
