For the second week running ‘The Bears’ were in an FA competition this time it was a short trip up the road to South Park (Reigate) for an Isuzu FA Trophy match.
Heath started brightly forcing The Sparks goalkeeper Danny Bracken into an early save on 3 minutes when Mason Doughty broke away down the left and played the ball across field to Zac Young who cut inside a defender and struck a left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area that was well saved by the South Park keeper.
Young was in action again 8 minutes later this time firing a left foot shot from 20 yards over the crossbar and on 14 minutes it was Heaths Matt Hay’s turn to strike a right foot free-kick from 24 yards wide of the post.
At the other end the host’s first site of goal came on 18 minutes when Brad Wilson received the ball just outside the penalty area but the South Park player’s shot flew high and wide of target.
On 32 minutes Doughty was played through on goal by Young but again Bracken was off his line quickly to narrow the angle and save the Heath strikers right foot shot with an outstretched left leg.
Heath took the lead 4 minutes before the break when a long Ben Royall throw-in from the left into the danger area was headed home from 8 yards by an unmarked Sal Marino giving The Bears a 1-0 half-time lead.
Minutes into the restart and Bracken was again on hand to gather Louis Evans long range right foot shot, while the hosts first real chance of the match came on 50 minutes when a free-kick was awarded some 20 yards from goal, Tom Jackson stepped up to take the kick and fired a right foot shot just wide of target and into the side netting.
Back to the other end and Young played a through ball into the path of Luke Bejashvili on the right of the penalty area but the Heath player pulled his right foot shot wide of the far post when well placed.
South Park equalised on 75 minutes following a mistake at the back when the ball got stuck under a Heath defenders legs, Bailee Cann was on it immediately and as Stan Williamson came out to meet him the forward stabbed a left foot out to steer the ball under the Heath goalkeeper into the net.
With a penalty shootout looking odds on in the 4th minute of time added-on South Park were rewarded a corner which was floated in from the right to the far post where it was met by the head of Ross Stepney to score and put his team into the next round.
Disappointment for The Bears who were just not clinical enough on the day in front of goal and no surprise that the hosts Man of the Match went to Danny Bracken. The teams go head to head again on Tuesday evening when South Park visit The Air Engineering Stadium for the first Isthmian League match of the season.
