Our fourth pre-season friendly on 19th July was another away match against another Isthmian League Central division side Ascot United. This pre-season match has become a bit of a tradition in recent years.
Last season the home-side just missed out on promotion having made the playoffs in third place and will be hoping to improve on that placing this season.
Heath started the game well with two early goal attempts but it was the home-side who took the lead on 10 minutes capitalising on a defensive error which allowed the Ascot striker to fire a low right foot shot into the bottom left corner. The hosts doubled their lead 8 minutes later and it was another error at the back with the Heath goalkeeper dwelling too long on the ball, having his clearance charged down and the ball going straight to another Ascot player who drilled it back into the net.
Heath pulled a goal back just before the break when Zac Young floated in a free kick from the right which Sean Terry headed in from close range, 2-1 at the break.
The Bears played much better in the second period as the heavens opened with a downpour of rain but although some great chances were created in the final third the clinical finish was missing and Ascot made it 3-1 late in the game when a ball was swung in from the right and struck first time from 8 yards out.
Final score 3-1 to the home-side.
