Goals Galore at the BodyMould Stadium

Our first home pre-season friendly of the season saw us welcome AFC Varndeanians to the BodyMould Stadium and on a pretty lousy July afternoon with constant rain, heavy at times the Bears turned on the style to net eight times without reply against their Southern Combination Premier division opponents.

The opening goal, scored on 11 minutes when a long diagonal cross field pass from Charlie Weller sent Mason Doughty through on goal, he cut inside from the right and struck a left foot shot from 18 yards beating the keeper at his near post.

The score was doubled on 28 minutes and this time Doughty became provider with a run down the left flank before cutting the ball back across the goal to Mario Quiasacca who turned it in at a stretch, at the far post and it remained 2-0 at the break.

7 minutes into the restart Heath scored their third, a short corner was taken on the left, the ball was swung into the penalty area to Bradley Campbell who stabbed it home from close range.

A swift counter attack by the Bears midway through the half led to the fourth goal, with Bradley Campbell getting round the right fullback to drill a low cross into the box to Ashley Mutongerwa who reacted quickest to turn the ball into the net from close range.

2 minutes later it was 5-0 when Charlie Weller took the ball to the goal-line and picked out Mutongerwa, unmarked and 8 yards from goal, the striker dribbled past the keeper to tap home with his left foot.

With the visitors tiring Heath scored three late goals, Harvey Webster scored his first goal for the club when he intercepted a pass, won the ball off a defender and then rifled a right foot shot from 18 yards past the keeper for Heaths sixth of the day.

Mutongerwa completed his hatrick with the best goal of the afternoon, Campbell was again involved cutting in from the left flank before playing the ball to Mutongerwa standing alone and 20 yards from goal and the striker picked his spot to place a right foot shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

In the closing minutes Harvey Webster played the ball into Faris Khallouqui with his back to goal and 12 yards out, the midfield player took a touch with his left and drilled home with his right to complete a comprehensive victory for the Bears.

Next up for the Bears is another friendly when we travel to Sutton Common Rovers on Wednesday 26th July Kick Off at 7.45.
