Our second pre-season friendly was a trip to Newhaven for a match on the 3G against the Dockers, never mind July the temperature on the south coast was more like a cold autumn evening.
The Bears started well with Jake Lindsey forcing Newhaven’s keeper into the first save of the evening after only 2 minutes play and the Dockers keeper was to make a further save on 8 minutes when Ash Mutongerwa broke through only to be denied by the alert keeper sprinting off his line to block the goal attempt. Despite the good start though it was the Dockers who took the lead midway through the half with a good move down the right which ended with the ball played into the far post where it was turned in from close range to give the hosts a half-time lead.
After a period of sustained pressure the Bears equalised after 62 minutes when a move down the right ended with the ball played across the goal mouth to Mario Quiasacca running in at speed and at full stretch the striker could only get the slightest of touches to divert the ball into the path of a defender and into the net for an own goal.
Three minutes later an amazing run into the penalty area by Jack Frankland saw the defender beat 3 men before rifling a right foot shot that crashed against the far post and rebounded off a Newhaven defender into the net for the second own goal of the night giving Heath a 2-1 advantage.
An inch perfect pass from Stan Berry on 76 minutes to Bradley Campbell allowed the striker to advance on goal before striking a right foot shot through a crowded penalty area for Heaths 3rd of the night.
Heath wrapped up the scoring 5 minutes from time when Ryan Brackpool played a ball over the defence to Quiasacca with time and space and as the Dockers keeper came out to narrow the angle the striker lobbed the ball over his head for number 4.
Another good workout for the Bears, next stop is a trip to Isthmian League Central side South Park on Saturday 8th and we hope you can make it.
