When the teams met in the reverse fixture at the Air Engineering Stadium just 3 weeks previously it was the Fold who came out on top with a 2-0 win to move into pole position in the division but since then their fortunes have changed losing two straight games 0-4 at home to Lingfield and 7-days later losing 1-5 at home to Horsham Crusaders so could they recover the form they showed at Broadbridge Heath or would the Bears reenact some revenge for that defeat?
Broadbridge Heath manager Chris Ellis welcomed back Jamie Collyer for the match having missed recent weeks through injury and it was good to see Jamie Buchanan start the match having missed the best part of two seasons out through injury.
In what was an evenly balanced first half the main difference between the sides were two quality goals, the first scored on 27 minutes when Micah Frazer won the ball off an Alfold player midway through their half and wide on the left, he played it inside to an unmarked Collyer
who took a touch to set the ball up and then hammered a right foot shot from 25 yards that flew past Alfold goalkeeper Jordan Jenner.
A minute later Alfold's Dieron Munorrah won the ball off a Heath player in the centre of the park and tried his luck with a long range right foot shot which went narrowly wide of the post.
Broadbridge Heath doubled their lead on 29 minutes when left fullback Adam Al Meskin received the ball midway through the Alfold half and played it forward to Will Dodd on the edge of the penalty area who received the ball with his back to goal and the former under 18 striker turned sharply to strike a left foot shot that flew past Jenner giving the Alfold goalkeeper no chance of stopping to make it 2-0 at the break.
The second half was hit and miss at times with neither side really able to play much flowing football, the home-side kept the Bears goalkeeper Stan Williamson busy with long balls forward to their front-line forcing the Heath keeper to come out and play more as a sweeper to deal with the danger and although some half-chances were created by both sides neither goalkeeper was troubled until the 92 minute.
To freshen things up the Heath manager introduced forwards Keanin Louw and Nathan Kennedy-Tamplin from the bench and that combination payed off in injury time when Louw won the ball wide on the left and played it into the path of Lewis Wraight who advanced towards the goal before playing the ball out wide right to Kennedy-Tamplin who took on a defender before hitting a low left foot shot under the advancing Jenner to make it a 3-0 win for the Bears.
