Having wrapped up the U23 North division title a week earlier Broadbridge Heath Under 23s travelled to play SCFL East division side Jarvis Brook in the League Cup Quarter-Final for ‘The Bears’ first ever visit to the East Sussex side based just outside Crowborough.
The hosts started well and took an early lead with just 7 minutes played when a free kick was awarded on the halfway line inside the centre circle, Ashton Miles took the kick playing a long ball forward over the Heath defence to Joseph Lambden who sneaked in behind the Heath defence to control the ball with his right foot before striking a right foot shot past Heath goalkeeper Stan Williamson.
The Bears responded well and drew level on 15 minutes when Keanin Louw received the ball wide on the left and tried to take the ball around defender George Brady who brought him down on the edge of the penalty area, the Match Referee was ideally positioned and immediately pointed to the penalty spot which was dispatched past Jarvis Brook goalkeeper Jack Berwick by the left foot of Adam Al Meskin for his fourth goal of the season.
Berwick was in action again midway through the half to save Sam Martinez’s right foot shot from distance and just minutes before the break Louw tried his luck with a right foot shot from 20 yards that was saved comfortably by Berwick and it remained all square at the break.
Heath created a number of chances in the second half but they lacked that clinical finish until the 82nd minute when Louw played the ball over the Jarvis Brook defence allowing Heath Under 18 striker Sam Abrehert to nip in and place a right foot shot past Berwick for his eighth Under 23 goal and his 23rd goal for the club this season.
Heath should have added a 3rd in the final minutes when Owen Davies received the ball wide of the left of the penalty area and played it across the face of goal to Abou JBrill but the striker dwelt too long on the ball and the chance was gone.
The final score a 2-1 win to The Bears who move into the semi-final, that match will be against either Arundel v Pagham, that match will take place on the 16th April and the winner will play Ferring, date to be confirmed.
Meanwhile it’s back to league football this Friday 10th April when the team travels to AFC Whyteleafe for a match against Lingfield Under 23s, Kick off at 20:00.
Team: Williamson, York, Al Meskin, Guest, Davies, Pickering, Martinez, Bedir, Louw, Hayes, Kennedy-Tamplin. Subs: Peck, Sheriff, JBrill, Abrehert, Aylett.
