Roger arrived at Broadbridge Heath Football Club in the mid-1970's having had a distinguished football career playing for Sussex, Horsham, Horsham YMCA and several other well established Senior teams.
At the time Broadbridge Heath FC were playing in the West Sussex Football League on a pitch at the old Army Camp and under Roger's guidance the team won successive promotions before he stood down as player/manager to take on the Chairman's role.
Under his leadership the team continued to progress winning the WSFL and promotion to the newly formed Southern Counties Combination League which amalgamated with the Sussex County Football League for the start of the 1983/84 season.
Off the pitch Roger and other members of the club were working closely with Horsham District Council who were looking to redevelop the land with Tesco moving onto the site and a new Sports Centre being built with Broadbridge Heath FC having their own pitch and clubhouse as part of the new development .
Having been a key person in helping the club move to their new facilities, the official opening of the new ground was on 12th April 1987, Roger then stepped down as Chairman but remained in and around the club.
Over the next few years Roger came back a couple of times as interim first team manager to help the club maintain its senior status, never wanting to take the role on full-time, and he even returned for a short spell as Chairman.
Current Broadbridge Heath FC Chairman Chris Higgins, who also played for Roger at Broadbridge Heath said "It is with great sadness that Broadbridge Heath FC has learned of the passing of former Manager/Chairman Roger Weekes.
Roger played a significant role in the history and development of our club, dedicating countless hours of service, leadership and support during his time with the club. His commitment to Broadbridge Heath FC helped shape the club both on and off the pitch, and his contribution will be remembered with gratitude by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Roger was a passionate advocate for grassroots football and cared deeply about the club, its players, volunteers and supporters. His influence and legacy remain an important part of Broadbridge Heath FC's story.
On behalf of everyone connected with the club, we extend our sincere condolences to Roger's family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.
Roger will be greatly missed and fondly remembered."
