Horley Town U23 0-6 Broadbridge Heath U23

The U23 team was in action on Thursday night when they travelled to Horley Town in the SCFL U23 North Division and the players put on an all star performance to come away with an impressive 6-0 victory to become the early division leaders.

Heath almost scored in the opening minute when Wiktor Maznica intercepted a back pass, took it past the goal keeper but a defender’s last ditch tackle denied the striker.

Both teams had early chances but it was the Bears who took the lead midway through the half. A flowing move to Maznica down the right saw the striker play a cheeky back-pass into the path of Zac Young who advanced into the penalty area, cut inside and struck a left foot shot into the bottom right corner. The half continued in a similar manner with chances at either end but it remained 0-1 at the break.

Heath doubled their lead 12 minutes into the restart when Young capitalised on a defensive error to smash a left foot into the bottom right corner from 16 yards. Heath were now dominating possession although the visitors were still creating chances on the counter attack forcing Heath keeper Monty Watson-Price into several top class saves.

The third goal came after 70mins, Maznica beat the offside trap only to be denied by the Horley keeper, the Heath striker gathered up the loose ball and picked out Szymon Kowalczyk who netted from close range. With 5 minutes to go a Heath counter-attack saw Maznica send Young through and he duly obliged with another left foot shot from 18yds to complete his first ever hat-trick for the club.

In the closing stages with the home side tiring Maznica showed his class with two fine finishes to complete a very good evening for the young Bears.
