Horley Town U23 1-0 Broadbridge Heath U23

Heath Under 23s were in League Cup action on Thursday night when they travelled to Horley Town for the second time this season having won the previous league encounter quite convincing by 6-0.

For the trip Heath Manager Chris Ellis fielded a very youthful team with an average age of 19 and no player over the age of 23. Whereas the home side made numerous changes to the original fixture with only two players starting from the opening day fixture and fielding the maximum allowed of over age players.

The hosts had the better of the first half play forcing Heath keeper Monty Watson-Price into a save low at his near post in the opening minutes and they deservedly took the lead on 15 minutes when Jamie Skipper converted with a low right foot shot into the bottom left corner for his sixth of the season.

Further chances were created by the home side but they lacked that clinical finish while at the other end Heath’s best chance came midway through the half with a defender slicing a left wing cross which hit the back of Szymon Kowalczuk on the goal-line and went out to safety.

The second half was a far more even affair with both sides creating chances but rarely troubling the keepers; the only exception was in the final minute of play when the Horley keeper fumbled the ball on the goal-line; Harry Kent and Wiktor Maznica both pounced on the loose ball but somehow the keeper managed to gather it between players legs and save the day for his team.
