Broadbridge Heath U23 3-2 Woking U23

The U23 team was in action on Thursday night when we welcomed Woking U23 to the BodyMould Stadium. The visitors have been regular visitors to Broadbridge Heath in recent years but that’s normally as a first team friendly so it was interesting to see how our young Under 23 side would do against them.

The visitors started well and looked very threatening on the attack but all too often that final ball was missing from their game; until the 27 minute when the pressure finally told. The move started with the Woking keeper who played a long ball forward, it was half cleared by a Heath defender but went straight to a Woking midfield player who split the defence with an inch perfect pass allowing his strike partner to coolly slot past the Heath keeper, Monty Watson-Price.

The visitors doubled their lead minutes later when a move down the right ended with a shot on goal, well saved by Watson-Price but the ball went straight to another Woking forward who converted from close range.

Wiktor Maznica reduced the deficit 10 minutes before the break when he intercepted a back pass, took the ball around the keeper to shoot into an empty net and it remained 2-1 at the break.

The second half was a far more even affair with the Bears equalising 8 minutes into the restart when Maznica once again intercepted a back pass went round the keeper and slotted home with his left foot.

The winning goal was scored on the hour, a corner was played in from the left, the ball came out to Maznica who picked his spot in the top right corner of the net only to be denied by a brilliant save on the line, unfortunately it wasn’t the Woking keeper who handled but a defender who was immediately shown the red card and Maznica completed his hat-trick from the spot.
